November Pack Meeting
|
|
The November pack meeting was held on November 21, 2006 in the school cafeteria. The focus of the meeting was emergency preparedness. Sgt. Paul Weinzapfel of the Warrick County Sheriff's Office was the keynote speaker. He shared his personal experiences from the November 2005 tri-state tornado with the boys. He stressed the importance of being prepared for disasters that can strike with little to no warning. Wolf Den Leader David McClary then reviewed several important items that should be kept in an emergency kit with the scouts. Additional information geared towards children regarding disaster and emergency preparedness is available from the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the American Red Cross.
The parents' corner discussion covered a recap of the scouting program at J.H. Castle. Popcorn sales money was also turned in at the meeting.

Pack 369 Rain Gutter Regatta
|
The Pack 369 Rain Gutter Regatta was held on November 11, 2006 at Camp Brosend in Newburgh. Jacob Hazelip (a Wolf Scout in Den 10) was the Grand Champion winner for the event--congratulations Jacob! The event was well attended and a lot of hard work was evident in the construction of the boys' sailboats.
Unfortunately, the camp out to which many people had been looking forward was cancelled as a result of cold temperatures. In addition to the race, the scouts and their families also were able to enjoy s'mores around the fire and carry-in dinner that evening. Thank you to all who contributed to this event that the boys enjoyed very much.

Pack 369 LST 325 Tour
|
Several members of Pack 369 toured the LST 325 in Evansville, Indiana on October 28, 2006. This event was
a fun and educational event for the pack's cub scouts and families! Although it was a chilly fall morning, those in attendance enjoyed the outing. The opportunity to have first hand look at the LST made a lasting impression on the boys who toured this historic vessel. For more information about LST 325, please visit the LST 325 memorial website, and for information about the ship's service during and following WW II
please visit NavSource Online. A map of the LST 325's location in Evansville, Indiana may be found here. Scouts also turned in their completed popcorn order forms that brought the 2006 popcorn sales to a close.

A Little Bit About Pack 369...
Pack 369 is sponsored by the J.H. Castle Elementary
PTO. It meets once a month in the
school cafeteria and has outside activities nearly every month. The Pack is made up of Dens that are
grouped by age. Each Den has its
own meetings and activities each month geared toward earning various belt
loops, pins and badges that all go toward achieving their next Cub Scout rank.
Scouts will need to purchase an official uniform shirt and
appropriate insignia. Dues for the
year are $50 for new Scouts and $45 for returning Scouts. What that gets your Scout is
registration with the Boy Scouts of America and Pack 369, a free Pack t-shirt,
and free attendance to various Pack activities throughout the year. Past events have included swimming at Newburgh Pool, tour of Squire Boon Caverns, bowling at Willow Lanes, camping (Harmonie and Lincoln State Parks, Camp Brosend, and Scales Lake), Pinewood Derby, all at no extra cost! In
addition, Scouts receive the awards they earn throughout the year at no extra
charge and no limit to the number they can earn! There is one fundraiser for the Pack,
the traditional popcorn sale in the fall.
Our recent success with the fundraiser allows us to continue to offer a
quality program without increasing dues or charging for each event throughout
the year.
